The Beauty of Savannah – Why I Love the City
I absolutely love Savannah, Georgia, I consider this great city my happy place. Why do I love the beauty of Savannah? What makes it so beautiful? There are many reasons as to why I consider Savannah so remarkable. It leaves a great impression and makes you want to come back. I have been to Savannah to visit the charming beauty a few times now.
As of matter of fact, I’m returning to Savannah, Fall 2020, to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). I have been a creative person and went to a community college for graphic/web design before — now I will be getting my degree in Film and Television Production at SCAD. Also, I will be minoring in Sound Editing. When I was thinking of a college to continue my education, the first school I thought about was SCAD. So I began looking into their programs, applied, and the rest is history. I will be so happy to be back in Savannah, Georgia. Now the things that makes the city beautiful…

Southern Hospitality
Savannah is so welcoming and I felt that every time I visited. Every restaurants/pub I visited were delighted to greet me. The many historical tours, trolley tours, and even ghost tours felt so inviting. I remember I was once on the Old Town Trolley tour one afternoon and the driver/tour guide was so happy to give us a tour of the city and funny too — like she would say things like (paraphrasing), “y’all what’s shakin’ bacon!” I felt so welcomed and I was having a great time amid a super hot day, but luckily it rained that day to cool us down a bit. The guides on the walking ghost tours were very friendly, energetic, and asked people where they were from. I loved the southern hospitality and it’s a reason why it makes Savannah so charming.
Spanish Moss
What really gives Savannah it’s unique beauty, is the Spanish moss hanging from the trees, draping all over the streets, squares, and parks. You know you’re in Savannah when you see the moss. I can’t think o the city without the moss and I don’t know why, but it makes me feel so relaxed and happy. Just walking the sidewalks along the streets, with the Spanish moss hanging over your head, it makes the beauty feel so welcoming.

Squares
Walking or sitting in the many squares of Savannah is one of the beauties that makes me feel so relaxed and you feel the charm. With the Spanish moss all over the trees in the squares, it provides a nice shade from the sun and it compliments the remarkable architecture all around you. The squares have a central monument and is full of history. The way the squares are laid out, in a grid pattern by the way, it makes Savannah one of the best designed cities.
As you look up or down the squares, you can see the other squares in the distance, so it provides a sense of completeness. The architecture and squares makes the city feel alive, you can see and feel the history. It will make you want to discover more of the history and why it makes Savannah such a beauty.

Architecture
The architecture of Savannah is one of the finest in the country. The downtown area is known as the historic district. The history and architecture has to be preserved; and is protected. Walking all around Savannah or driving for that matter, you feel the history and want to know more. There are many architecture styles seen throughout Savannah — there is the Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Regency, and many more styles.
There are several historic buildings throughout the city and it makes the city feel so alive and beautiful. It’s is one of the reasons why I absolutely love Savannah and why it feels so welcoming. Several of the architecture landmarks are the Sorrel Weed House, Davenport House, (do this part).

Haunted History
I love Savannah for another reason, it’s “known” as the most haunted city in the United States. There is so much history about Savannah from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, to the Spanish influenza of 1918. So there are many folks buried all around the city and especially in/around Colonial Park Cemetery, supposedly! Supposedly, there are over 10,000 people buried under the streets in/around the cemetery — but there are less than 1,000 grave markers. Now that is haunting to think about. Is it fact or fiction, you decide?
The walking ghost tours are a great way to explore the haunted history and I love those tours for that reason. You will have a fun night with your ghostly tour guide and learn the folklore. The Ghosts & Gravestones trolley tour is another great way to experience the lore and ghostly history that Savannah has to offer. It will take you all around the historic district and visit some haunted locations. I definitely had a great time on these type of tours, it’s not be for everyone; but I think it makes Savannah’s history feel alive. Lastly, the Sorrel Weed House is suppose to be haunted, just like every building in Savannah, for that matter. The haunted history is the hidden gem of Savannah’s beauty.

Summary
Overall, I love Savannah from the charming beauty to the hospitality, squares, history, architecture, and the haunted history. It is why I consider Savannah my happy place, I love being there. I feel myself there already, where my heart is meant to be, because Savannah really feels like home. Well, I’m so happy I will be back there in the fall attending SCAD — I will have so much more time to explore more of the history of Savannah.
