Hiking in Island Lake Recreation Area – I Hiked 16 Miles!
This is my second post of writing with my blog called Transcending Footsteps. What is there to talk about during this so called quarantine? The world is in a weird place right now and one of the great things about stay-at-home orders or “lockdowns” is you still can do outdoor recreation — until they say we can’t. So about a couple weeks ago I did some hiking because being in the house all day can be pretty boring, I needed to escape. I decided to visit my local state park in Michigan by hiking in Island Lake Recreation Area, which is around Milford, Michigan.
Blue Trail
I drove to the state park and once I arrived at the trailhead, I began my day hiking adventure. Hiking at this state park is relatively easy, you will go through wooded, grassy, and sandy areas. I hiked along the blue trail first. The trail will take you along a rail-track for a portion of the hike. From there, the trail goes through mostly wooded areas and around a beachy lake. There was not much of any scenic views through my first half of hiking. Finally I arrived near the trailhead again and began the second portion of my hike.

Yellow Trail
Now I went hiking at Island Lake Recreation Area on many occasions, it is the closest park for hiking. So I started hiking on the yellow trail and this trail takes you through wooded hilly areas. There were more scenic views, along the Huron River — there is a nice spot for sitting overlooking the hilly river area. I passed numerous people hiking or biking while trying to social distance as much as possible. I continued hiking for another 6 miles, going through wooded to grassy areas, and eventually arrived at the trailhead yet again.

Back to the Trailhead
Finally I got into my car and headed home, to continue my so called quarantine. That was nice to escape the boredom for a day. I believe that was my first time hiking 16 miles in one run in one day. I was proud of myself but my feet and legs were soar, I should have paced myself slower — as I hiked 16 miles in only 5 hours. Yeah I definitely need to paced myself so I don’t overwork myself, note-to-self next time. Anyways, thanks so much for reading. Until next time, embrace adventure.
